Mental Stamina

Sports Lab

Mental Stamina is the drive to push beyond the point of wanting to quit while at the same time maintaining a high level of performance. Possessing great mental stamina clearly is critical for the athlete. It is the most significant component effecting success in athletics, promoting self-confidence, concentration, leadership, will power, and the ability to overcome adversity as well as the ability to block out fatigue, pain and discomfort in order to persevere.

It is the summoning of all the necessary internal resources to meet any challenge. By experiencing the sheer joy of utilizing maximum effort for the sake of excellence, SportsLab athletes attain courage, tenacity, and commitment. This is accomplished by quieting the active mind and blocking out distractions while maintaining proper technique. As new limits are set and met, self-confidence builds and mental stamina increases.

The SportsLab training establishes measurable, defined criteria which identify what "good" is in athletics and provides the exact methods to attain it and to objectively evaluate it. As the SportsLab athlete recognizes that even small gains in areas of high priority are significant, rapid and exceptional gains in performance are achieved.

  • The SportsLab athlete becomes a relentless, fierce competitor.
  • Self-satisfaction is the result of meeting SportsLab qualifications for success.
  • Accomplishment and dedication fuels success.
  • As mental stamina is achieved, precise sports movements become automatic, eliminating the athlete's concentrating on technique during competitions.
  • As the athlete utilizes the training tools to reach personal goals, it will be natural for him to "raise the bar" and to be motivated to accomplish even more.
  • The environment of the SportsLab allows the athlete to train alongside skilled competitors from the high school, collegiate and professional levels who are using the same system with great success.
  • This competitive environment allows every athlete to be systematically challenged regardless of their current physical or mental level.
  • Athletes are tested at intervals to allow them to know how far they've advanced and to set new goals.
  • While normal training should not require the summoning of extra will power or reserves, training for mental stamina requires periodically pushing the training using simulated competition at nearly maximum effort.

Sports dominance requires "The Attitude:" the ability to block out the pressure and pain of intense competitive effort, to reach down deep within oneself to rise to the greatest challenge. Mental stamina is the balance of supreme confidence and humility. SportsLab athletes play to win rather than playing not to lose.
